UI Encourages Health Innovation Through Leading Startups

Universitas Indonesia (UI) celebrated Hari Inovasi Indonesia 2024 (Indonesian Innovation Day 2024)  by introducing two leading startups fostered by the Directorate of Innovation and Science Techno Park (DISTP): HerLens and Neupsi. These two startups demonstrate UI’s dedication to advancing health technology, focusing on developing technology-based medical solutions for the needs of the Indonesian people. As the number one campus in Indonesia, UI continues to be committed to creating innovations with real social impact, as evidenced by HerLens, which innovates in cervical cancer prevention, and Neupsi, which develops digital neuropsychology.

Startup representatives, Alfi and Nidya from HerLens and Kenny Valentino from Neupsi, shared their views on their innovation journeys. They emphasized the importance of the UI Incubate Bootcamp, which played a major role in honing their skills to face challenges in the health technology sector. HerLens and Neupsi are motivated to contribute to improving the quality of life of the community, for example, with cancer prevention technology for women’s health and digital neuropsychology applications for better mental health diagnosis.

HerLens and Neupsi hope that support for health technology research and development in Indonesia will be stronger, especially through collaboration between academics, industry, and government. Nidya from HerLens emphasized the importance of this support to strengthen the contribution of local innovation in the global market. In addition, Kenny from Neupsi hopes that their innovation can play a role in improving mental health, which is an important issue today.

At this event, HerLens and Neupsi also shared a message to new startups to always prioritize problem identification before formulating solutions. They emphasized that a deep understanding of the problem will produce relevant and impactful solutions. In addition, marketing strategies, financial management, and human resources are also crucial aspects for the success of a startup. Kenny highlighted that effective marketing is very important so that their products are known and accepted by the market.

In addition, Alfi reminded the importance of having a long-term vision and the ability to adapt to change. According to him, innovation is not only about creating technology, but also the readiness to continue learning and adapting to emerging challenges. UI through DISTP is committed to supporting the emergence of more startups that have a positive impact on the nation and are ready to compete globally.

Hari Inovasi Indonesia 2024 (Indonesian Innovation Day 2024) also underlines the importance of synergy between academics, industry, and government in building a sustainable innovation ecosystem. UI as a leader in higher education in Indonesia hopes to continue to encourage the birth of new innovations that bring broad benefits to society and can compete internationally.
