Universitas Indonesia (UI) successfully got achievement as an institution that had
“Outstanding Scientific &Technological Contribution to Social & Economic Development ”
from Islamic Development Bank (IDB).
The award was given to academic or research institutions that were considered committed
to technology application for social and economic welfare of their own country.
The award handover event was done on IDB Prizes for Science and Technology 15th
Edition that was held on Tuesday, May 16 th 2017 at Hilton Hotel , Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
In the event, UI was represented by UI Rector, Prof. Dr. Ir. Muhammad Anis, M. Met. UI
got 100.000 USD prize from the award.
In his speech, Anis said that the prize will be used for improving innovation and UI
contribution in developing society.
Besides UI Rector, Dr. rer. nat. Abdul Haris (Dean of Faculty of Mathematics and Natural
Sciences of UI), Prof. Dr. Ir. Dedi Priadi, DEA (Dean of Faculty of Engineering of UI), and
Prof. Dr. Heri Hermansyah (Director of Reseach & Community Engagements of UI) also
attended the event.
IDB is a multilateral financial institution with the main mission to alleviate poverty of its
member countries.
One of IDB effort to alleviate poverty is by encouraging innovation or creation of individual
or research institution of its member countries, including Indonesia.
The innovation hopefully would give positive impact for development and improvement of
social welfare.
IDB prize is one of IDB supports in order to actualized innovation that will be useful for
community development.
IDB Prizes divided into three categories, that are woman contribution for development,
science and technology, and Islamics economic and financial.
IDB Prizes for Sciences and Technology had been given by IDB since 2002 as one of IDB
concern in science and technology.
