Depok, June 2th6 2023. Universitas Indonesia (UI) received visits from 10 universities from China which aim to open up opportunities for collaboration between universities in terms of student exchange and broader educational development. The ten universities from China were Chengdu University, Shanxi University, Shantou University, East China University of Technology, China Academy of Art, Ningbo City College of Vocational Technology, Hangzhou City University, XuetangX, Bohai Shipbuilding Vocational College, and Tsinghua University. During the visit last Thursday (22/6), representatives from the 10 universities were welcomed by the Universitas Indonesia Vice-Rector for Academic and Student Affairs, Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Abdul Haris at the Faculty of Computer Science (Fasilkom), Depok Campus, West Java.
When delivering his remarks, Prof. Haris said that every individual has the same opportunity to access education, especially in the current era which is facilitated by online learning. He also added that this is in line with the Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) program that has been implemented by UI.
The presence of this program aims to share knowledge and provide the widest possible learning opportunities not only for UI students, but for all Indonesian citizens. In addition, during the Covid-19 pandemic, the existence of this program was one of the efforts to ensure students would continue to receive the highest quality education in order to create a generation that could compete in the global arena.
In line with what was conveyed by Prof. Haris, Manager of Online Course Construction and On-Campus Application, Tsinghua University, Guo Shuangshuang said that technological transformation with inclusive educational accessibility for every individual is very helpful in expanding education. “In recent years, new technological developments, such as big data and artificial intelligence (AI) have changed lifestyles and provided great opportunities to meet the demand for digital higher education. This allows us to provide high-quality education to more people,” said Guo Shuangshuang.
