To improve the quality of documentation, Universitas Indonesia (UI) held a photography training on Tuesday (07/26/2022) in the Conference Room, University Administration Center Building. The training was attended by Public Relations Bureau of Public Information Disclosure (KIP) UI, faculties, vocational education program, and educational programs. For almost four hours of training, the 50 invited participants were enthusiastic to watch the explanation from the former personal photographer of the 6th President of Indonesia, Abror Rizky. As stated by UI Secretary Dr. Agustin Kusumayati, M.Sc., Ph.D., this event is important to improve the knowledge and insight of each Public Relations Bureau in capturing an object. Not only about photos, the results of the photographs must also contain information and aesthetic value.

The goal is to attract public interest in visiting the objects that have been photographed by Public Relations Bureau at UI. “It is hoped that after participating in this activity, all Public Relations Bureaus of faculties and other educational programs at UI will be able to understand and learn how to take good pictures and videos,” said Former Dean of FMIPA UI period of 2012-2019, Dr. Agustin. The arrival of the photographer, Abror Rizky, was warmly welcomed by Head of Public Relations Bureau of UI Dra. Amelita Lusia, M.Si. According to her, the socialization of this training is able to add knowledge and open up insights in capturing an object. Abror Rizky’s presence is believed to be able to inspire many people, especially he was once the photographer of Mr. Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono for 13 years.

During his time as a photographer, Abror Rizky has conducted a series of assignments both overseas and in Indonesia. In total, Abror has traveled to 43 countries and 34 provinces in Indonesia. A remarkable achievement for a 55-year-old man. “I come to UI with a feeling of enthusiasm to share knowledge, experiences, and stories during my time as a photographer. Hopefully, my delivery in today’s training can be well received,” said Abror Rizky.

Before the training was held, a week earlier the participants were required to send their photograph results. When the training began today, Abror Rizky gave input and assessment to each photograph from the participants that were displayed on the infocus screen. He explained, giving input and suggestions is expected to be a trigger to improve the quality of both photos and videos documentation. “I am not patronizing, but I only provide input based on the experience and research I have done,” he said.

One of the UI Update participants, Alfin Heriagus, expressed his feelings about the photography training socialization program. The 22-year-old man revealed that he has become more aware and has understood the criteria for a good and proper portrait. Not only in terms of angle and lighting, but also in terms of other compositions. The other compositions in question are lines, shapes, colors and the light and dark sides. In taking pictures, there is an added value that is rarely known by many people, namely momentum.

Abror said that to take a momentum requires good coordination between the photographer and the object to be photographed. Coordination is able to lead someone to describe the shooting imagination that is thought into an object so that it can produce beautiful and eye-catching images.
