UI Joins Work and Study in Ulsan Program

Universitas Indonesia (UI), as the best and most tolerant campus, received a visit from two leading universities in South Korea, namely the University of Ulsan (UOU) and the Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST). Vice Rector for Human Resources and Assets, Prof. Dr. Ir. Dedi Priadi, DEA, together with representatives from the Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Engineering, and Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, welcomed the guests which took place in Meeting Room A, UI Central Administration Building.

During the visit, Dr. Sung Chul Bae, Vice President of Academic Affairs UNIST, presented the Work and Study in Ulsan (WSU) program. This program is intended for postgraduate students in master’s and doctoral programs, providing the opportunity to study at UOU and UNIST with a joint degree system, as well as work experience in large companies such as Hyundai and Samsung. Ulsan is known as an industrial center with the highest per capita income in South Korea, making this program very attractive to UI students.

Vice President for Academic Affairs UOU, Dr. Chi-Woon Cho, emphasized that UI is one of the seven main partners in the WSU program. He explained that the reputation of UI’s competent graduates, with a score of 79.2 in the QS World University Ranking 2025, was the main reason for involving UI in this program. This program is also supported by funding from the South Korean Government, ensuring that the best students from UI will get adequate accommodation during their studies and work in Ulsan.

Welcoming the WSU initiative, Prof. Dedi stated that global collaboration is an important step to create quality innovation. He emphasized that this program shows the commitment of the three universities to connect academic innovation with industry needs. UI’s involvement in WSU is expected to strengthen relations between Indonesia and South Korea, especially in the field of industrial innovation, as well as create new opportunities for students.

Head of the Center for Independent Learning (CIL) UI, Fransiskus Astha Ekadiyanto, added that the Indonesian Government also provides support to universities through the Certified Independent Internship and Study (MSIB) program. This program allows students to work in companies, ministries, institutions, or other partners for one year. By involving UI in the WSU program, it is expected that the scope of student learning will be wider, enriching their experience and increasing the competitiveness of graduates at the international level.

Through this collaboration, UI shows its commitment as a tolerant and best campus in providing relevant and innovative education. Involvement in the WSU program will not only provide direct benefits to students but also strengthen UI’s position in the global education network, encourage sustainable development, and support the advancement of industry in Indonesia.
