“Higher education institutions must be at the forefront of encouraging green and sustainable economic growth based on sharia at the global level.” The statement was conveyed by the 13th Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prof. Dr. (H.C.) K.H. Ma’ruf Amin at the “Seminar and Launching of the Indonesia Sharia Economic Outlook (ISEO) 2025” event held by Universitas Indonesia (UI) through the Center for Sharia Economics and Business (PEBS) of the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), on Saturday, November 30.
In the activity, which took place online, Prof. Ma’ruf Amin said that the sustainability of sharia economic and financial programs is a manifestation of the mainstream of national development, both in the short, medium, and long term at the regional and national levels. For this reason, he appreciated UI’s steps which have committed to supporting sharia economic and financial literacy.
UI’s steps in supporting the development of sharia economics and finance are based on Indonesia’s opportunities as one of the largest Muslim countries in the world. According to the Vice Dean for Education, Research, and Student Affairs of FEB UI, Arief Wibisono Lubis, Ph.D, efforts to increase the role of sharia economics have been supported by the new government (Prabowo-Gibran). This can be seen from the sharia economic policy in Asta Cita in Misi Cita 2, namely strengthening the state defense and security system and encouraging national independence through self-sufficiency in food, energy, water, sharia economy, digital economy, green economy, and blue economy.
