The poster “Prototype Electronic Critical-care Pain Observation Tool (e-CPOT)” by Universitas Indonesia (UI) Faculty of Nursing (FIK) Team won 1st place in the Nursing Category at the 2024 Sardjito Learning Forum (SLF) Poster Competition. The poster by seven students of Master of Nursing Science Program, Medical-Surgical Nursing specialization, contains information about the prototype of pain assessment media in critical patients.
According to the team leader, Ns. Nita Aprilia, S.Kep., this poster aims to educate the public about the urgency of using e-CPOT. This is because all critical patients must experience pain. More than 80% of patients with mechanical ventilation experience moderate to severe pain. However, it is difficult for critical patients to report their condition verbally, so accuracy in evaluating pain is needed. Inadequately managed pain risks prolonging ventilator use, length of hospitalization, and increasing the risk of delirium and death.
Therefore, e-CPOT, a prototype smartphone application, was created to assist nurses in assessing pain in critical patients more easily, quickly, and comprehensively. This tool has several excellent features. First, CPOT Education is equipped with video tutorials, making it easier for nurses to learn this assessment method. Second, CPOT Assessment Quiz in the form of case studies and videos to help nurses hone their skills. Third, the CPOT Calculator that is able to quickly calculate the CPOT score and provide appropriate intervention recommendations.
“We hope this prototype can continue to be developed to support nurses, doctors, and other health workers in assessing pain in critical patients. Hopefully, the development of the e-CPOT prototype can be continued into an appropriate application to support the assessment of critical patient pain,” said Ns. Nita.
Ns. Nita also expressed her gratitude to all team members who have worked hard to create this innovation. The team members are Ns. Heru Nurinto, S.Kep., Ns. Ngakan Nyoman Rai Bawa, S.Kep., Ns. Maria Devi Novarita, S.Kep., Ns. Muhammad Fikri Indra, S.Kep., Ns. Tutut Riana Hapsari, S.Kep., and Ns. Josua Edison, S.Kep. All team members hope that this achievement will motivate colleagues and other health workers to innovate in providing the best service to patients.
The Dean of FIK UI, Agus Setiawan, S.Kp., M.N., D.N., gave appreciation to the KMB Student Team for their achievements. He said, “The achievements made by our students are signs of their dedication and creativity in developing innovations that benefit the world of nursing. We are proud and will support them in creating new breakthroughs.”
This year’s SLF event carries the theme “Transformation of Dignified Health Services in the Era of Precision Medicine”. In addition to the Nursing Category, the poster competition also selected winners for three other categories, namely Medical, Other Health, and Management. The Medical Category was won by Dr. Mahmud, M.Sc., SpAn-TI, Subsp.An.M.N(K)., FIFPM (Dr. Sardjito General Hospital Yogyakarta); Other Health Category by apt. Pratiwi, M.Clin. Pharm (Dr. Sardjito General Hospital Yogyakarta); and Management Category by Isman Susanto, S.Kep., Ners (Dr. Sardjito General Hospital Yogyakarta).
SLF is a platform for healthcare professionals to share knowledge and innovation. This year, SLF reaffirmed its commitment in supporting the development of dignified and technology-oriented health services. SLF 2024 provides a space for young innovators to showcase the best work that can be applied in healthcare in the future.
