The ranking agency Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) released the QS Asia University Rankings 2024 on Wednesday (8/11). Universitas Indonesia (UI) remains the best in Indonesia by occupying position 1 out of 42 universities in Indonesia that took part in this ranking. UI also experienced an increase in ranking from last year, namely 49 to 48, out of a total of 857 universities from 25 countries and regions. This increase in ranking makes UI part of the top 6% of the best universities in Asia.

UI Rector, Prof. Ari Kuncoro, S.E., M.A., Ph.D., said that the increase in UI’s ranking this year also marks UI’s position that has continued to improve in Asia in the last three years. “UI’s ranking in the QS Asia University Rankings from 2022 to 2024 shows a significant increase. UI rose from ranking 56th, 49th, to 48th. I hope this increase marks the readiness of UI, Indonesia, and Asia at large, to contribute to world progress and prosperity,” said Prof. Ari.

In the 16th edition of the QS Asia University Rankings, there were additional participants taking part in the ranking, namely 149 universities for Asia and 7 universities for Indonesia. Along with this ranking, the QS institute also published four sub-regional derivative rankings, namely the QS Asia University Rankings: Eastern Asia, Southern Asia, South-Eastern Asia, and Central Asia. At the Southeast Asia sub-regional level, UI is ranked 10th and is the only university in Indonesia in the top 10 in the QS Asia University Rankings: South-Eastern Asia.

The assessment methods and criteria used in the QS Asia University Ranking are the same as those applied in the QS World University Ranking, with additions and adjustments. There are at least four main indicators that are used as benchmarks in the assessment, namely Research and Discovery, Employability and Outcomes, Learning Experience, and Global Engagement.

The four main indicators are detailed in eleven criteria, namely Academic Reputation (30%), Employer Reputation (20%), Faculty Student Ratio (10%), Citations per Paper (10%), International Research Network (10%), Papers per Faculty (5%), Staff with Ph.D (5%), International Student Ratio (2.5%), International Faculty Ratio (2.5%), Inbound Exchange Student Ratio (2.5%), and Outbound Exchange Student Ratio (2.5%). Of all the criteria, UI experienced an increase in scores on three criteria, namely Employer Reputation, Academic Reputation, and Faculty Student Ratio.
