UI Received a Visit from the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Jakarta

Universitas Indonesia (UI) received a visit from a delegation from the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany at the Rectorate UI Building, on Thursday (08/12). The meeting discussed the potential for cooperation between UI and Germany. During the visit, the delegation from the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany who attended included Member of the National Parliament of the Federal Republic of Germany and Chairman of the Committee on Education, Research and Technology Assessment, Mr. Kai Gehring; Head of Online Services and Parliamentary Television Division, Dr. Maika Jachmann; Technical University of Berlin, Prof. Dr. Frank Behrendt; Head of Press and Cultural Affairs, German Embassy Jakarta, Mr. Christoph Fisher; Director of DAAD Regional Office Jakarta, Dr. Guido Schnieders; Interpreter, German Embassy Jakarta, Mrs. Astrid Rafli; and Science and Technology Department, German Embassy Jakarta, Mrs. Natalia Raffi.

The visit of the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany was welcomed by Vice Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Abdul Haris; Head of Center of Independent Learning (CIL) UI, F. Astha Ekadiyanto, S.T., M.Sc; Vice Dean for Education, Research, and Student Affairs of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) Dr. rer. nat. Budiawan; Lecturer in the Department of Physics, FMIPA UI, Prof. Terry Mart; Faculty Secretary, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) UI, Dr. Panji Anugrah Permana, S.IP., M.Sc., Dr.phil; Head of the Undergraduate Study Program, Department of Anthropology, FISIP UI, Dr. Phil. Imam Ardhianto; Head of Regular Undergraduate Study Program of International Relations UI Dr. phil. Yandry Kurniawan; Executive Director of the Political Studies Center, FISIP UI, Dr. phil. This meeting is aimed to open opportunities for cooperation in increasing the mobility of student and cultural exchanges between Indonesia and Germany by conducting discussions on strategic development and the potential for cooperation between the universities of Indonesia and Germany. Vice Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Abdul Haris said, “The relationship of cooperation and collaboration between UI and Germany that has been built for a long time is something to be proud of. UI is committed to developing research and innovation in global collaboration, as an effort to contribute to Indonesia, especially in improving the quality of education,” said Prof. Harris.

Member of the National Parliament of the Federal Republic of Germany and Chairman of the Committee on Education, Research and Technology Assessment, Mr. Kai Gehrin also gladly welcomed the meeting by saying that the purpose of the German Delegation at this meeting is also to provide scholarship opportunities for Internationales Parliaments-Stipendium (IPS) program for UI students and provide freedom to conduct more intensive research towards better relations in face various challenges in the future.

IPS is a scholarship program from the German parliament that provides an opportunity for the highly motivated young generation to get to know German politics and its democratic system better and closer. The IPS program aims to convey democratic values and tolerance in a plural society, as well as to deepen understanding of cultural diversity. In addition, this program is also expected to contribute to bilateral relations between Germany and the participating countries.
