UI Receives Comparative Study Visit from UGM: Discuss Public Relations Management & Student Exchange Services

Universitas Indonesia (UI) received a comparative study visit from the Public Relations Team of the Faculty of Medicine, Public Health and Nursing (FK-KMK) Gadjah Mada University (UGM) on Wednesday (01/11) in Meeting Room A, University Administration Center Building (PAU), UI Depok Campus. The purpose of this visit was to discuss public relations such as news management, mass media, social media, university promotional activities, and also student exchange services such as management systems, licensing, and the activities of the student exchange itself.

Welcomed by the Head of the Partnership and Hospitality Section of the Public Relations Bureau and Public Information Disclosure (KIP) of UI, Finda Salsabila, M.A., the FK-KMK UGM delegation was represented by the Head of the UGM FK-KMK Administration Office, Yulistiarini Kumaraningrum, SP., MM, wished that this discussion could be a source of new knowledge that can be applied at their respective universities. Yulistiarini explained that they wanted to learn more about how UI manages its public relations programs and international services. “Currently, the UGM FK-KMK Public Relations team itself is focusing on improving public relations activities, therefore our aim at UI is to increase knowledge and gain knowledge together with our partners,” said Yuli.

Regarding news and mass media management, Finda explained that the Public Relations Bureau and KIP UI do not only focus on managing news or information from faculties for publication. “We also search for and compile news independently through reporting activities or writing press releases that ride the wave. We are no longer sitting still and waiting for news but are instead digging up information from UI experts that can be written into news. News related to environmental issues, climate change or Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which can boost UI’s ranking in international ranking agencies, is also the focus of our attention,” said Finda.

Head of the Information Publication Section of the UI Public Relations Bureau and KIP, Ardiansyah., MTI., explained that UI is currently focused on promoting the university through the publication of content and information aimed at branding the campus’ image and reputation. “The content itself usually takes the form of news about university achievements and positive activities carried out on campus,” said Ardi.

Apart from maximizing information through news on official sites and social media platforms, UI also tries to maximize the use of other multimedia platforms such as YouTube. The UI Teve channel, which is only 3 years old, has become a new platform for providing the latest UI information and broadcasting activities live with the Live Streaming feature.

Not only discussing public relations, this comparative study also discussed management activities and licensing of student exchange activities at UI, both in accepting students from abroad and sending students abroad. Plh. University Secretary and Head of the International Office, drg. Baiduri Widanarko, M.K.K.K., Ph.D., said that for the inbound student exchange category (foreign students studying at UI) management still focuses on one door, namely directly by the UI International Office both in the form of permits, applications and the process of accepting students and teachers. Meanwhile, for outbound student exchanges (UI students studying abroad) several faculties at UI already have their own international affairs management where some of them manage their international cooperation independently but are still under supervision and centered on the UI International Office.

This comparative study meeting and discussion itself was also attended by UI representatives including the Head of the UI Teve Services Department, Drs. Wahyono Noviantoro; Promotion Manager, Rini Febriani, M.Si.; International Mobility Facilitation Coordinator, Alfrida Esther Madame Hutapea; Inbound International Mobility Program Manager, Nesti Rahayu; Immigration Services Manager/Processor Valda Nadhifah. Accompanying the Head of the UGM FK-KMK Administration Office, Yulistiarini Kumaraningrum, SP., MM, were UGM FK-KMK Public Relations staff, Dian Paramitasari, Yupiter Aryo Putro, and Nasirullah Sitam.
