UI Receives Visit from Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology

To expand collaboration with various global partners, Universitas Indonesia (UI) continues to explore strategic cooperation to support the development of science clusters. This time, UI welcomed a delegation from Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) Australia at the University Administration Center Building, UI Depok campus. The arrival of the RMIT delegation aims to develop collaboration and strengthen global partner cooperation between UI and RMIT.

RMIT is a global university of technology, design and enterprise that plays a central role in providing quality applied education. According to the QS World University Rankings (WUR) 2024, RMIT is ranked 18th in the world by subject, namely art and design and built environment and architecture.

In his remarks, the Vice Chancellor for Human Resources and Assets, Prof. Dr. Ir. Dedi Priadi, DEA said, “Previously, I noted that UI and RMIT already have collaborations with the Faculty of Public Health (FKM) and the Faculty of Computer Science (Fasilkom). I think we can expand our collaboration in the future with other areas especially in research. Hopefully UI and RMIT can have joint research grants,” Prof. Dedi said.

He added that UI’s Faculty of Engineering (FT), Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), and Fasilkom provide joint degree and double degree programs. The three faculties offer international cooperation programs through these two programs as an initial form of exploring other collaborations such as Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) double degrees and master’s degrees that aim to conduct joint research. “RMIT and UI have the opportunity to explore potential collaborations in these areas,” Prof. Dedi said.

Meanwhile, Dean of School of PCPM Associate Deputy Vice-chancellor International (College of Design and Social Context), Professor Ron Wakefield said that UI has great things to offer. “I and the staff members here are looking for ideas from this visit meeting to talk about further collaboration where we previously had a collaborative research training agreement. Certainly with this meeting, we have many good opportunities”.

Responding to the international cooperation offers in FT, FEB and Fasilkom, Executive Director of RMIT International, Layton Pike said he was very interested in collaborating especially in the fields of environment and architecture, art and design as RMIT’s strengths. “We will take this information and start the hard work to make this happen. I think two of the things that people like and talk about in-depth partnerships are not only undergraduate and postgraduate education programs, but also research collaborations. For RMIT, this is a really good way to advance international partnerships,” Layton said.
