UI Student Dance Team Won International Competition in Bulgaria

Student dance team called “Kencana Pradipa” from Faculty of Psychology University of Indonesia (UI) bearing the name of Indonesia by winning a world art and cultural competition with a Grand Prix title.

The contingent who represented Indonesia successfully captivated judges and audiences on The 7th World Championship of Folklore that was held on August 17th to 27th 2017 in Bulgaria.

Series of victories that was brought home by Kencana Pradipa Dance Team consisted of World Champion for Folklore Ensembles category; World Champion for Folklore Instrumental Group category; Gold Medal for Folklore Instrumental Group and Gold Medal for Folklore Ensembles category.

At the final night, Kencana Pradipa Dance Team who are consisted of 32 students of Faculty of Psychology UI year 2014-2016 competed by other country’s performer such as from Russian, Latvia, Croatia, Iran and also Bulgaria,the host.

The 7th World Championship of Folklore involved reliable judges such as Prof. Kravtsov Nikolai, Maestro Georgi Yanko and Mr. Valentine Halvadjiev. The assessment indicators consisted of performance complexity, performance quality, visual, costume, staging and stage attitude.

According to The Team Leader, Vinda Manurung, “We successfully excel on performance complexity, visual, costume and staging,” said her.

There were 4 dances in total that was performed, consisted of Saman Dance, Wanoja Bentang dance from Sunda, Kembang Selaras dance from Betawi, and Papeda dance from Papua.

Founded since 2007, Kencana Pradipa has been participated in various competition on national level and cultural mission such as cultural mission in Spain-Portugal (2009), United States (2010), Brazil (2013) and Hungary (2017).

The 7th World Championship of Folklore is the first international competition that was participated by Kencana Pradipa.
