UI Students Win Five Champions in 3rd Indonesian Public Health Olympiad 2024

Five student teams from the Faculty of Public Health (FKM) of Universitas Indonesia (UI) took home five championship titles from the 3rd Indonesian Public Health Olympiad (IPHO) 2024. This prestigious competition was organized by the Association of Indonesian Public Health Higher Education Institutions (AIPTKMI) at FKM Universitas Mulawarman, Samarinda.

In the Perancangan Sistem Informasi (Information System Design) category, the FKM UI Team consisting of Sinta Paramita Sari, Alif Musyaffa, and Gregorius Yuka won 1st place. This victory was thanks to the innovation of the TEMANI application prototype designed by the three of them to improve schizophrenia management and reduce existing social impacts. Sinta said that handling schizophrenia faces challenges, such as a lack of coordination between agencies, limited surveillance data, and a lack of human resources (HR) in health facilities.

“The TEMANI application prototype is designed to overcome these challenges with the main features of caregiver reservations, mental health consultations, medical history, and monitoring of treatment status. This application is integrated with the national mental health surveillance system, supports the concept of ONE DATA, and aims to improve access, compliance, and quality of care,” said Sinta.

Meanwhile, the FKM UI Team consisting of Putri Ayu, Hanifah Yazna, and Shaina Naurah Aziza also won 1st place in the Health Policy Analysis category. They successfully demonstrated their expertise in formulating applicable and strategic health policies. There are several policy points formulated by Shaina and the Team, such as risk management, privacy and protection of health data, adoption of Regulatory Considerations on Artificial Intelligence for Health by WHO, adoption of ethical values of artificial intelligence in the Circular of the Minister of Communication and Information, regulations regarding HR, and monitoring and evaluation systems.

“Hopefully, the implementation of artificial intelligence can start in the Indonesian Capital City (IKN) which is predicted to be a smart city. After that, the digital transformation of health can move massively throughout Indonesia with IKN as a pioneer,” said Shania.

Meanwhile, other FKM UI Teams also won 1st place in the Cerdas, Cermat, dan Cepat (Smart, Careful, and Fast) category. They consist of Faris Muhammad, Luthfia Dara Janitra, and Rizani Alia Davina, all three of whom were supervised by Dr. Puput Oktamianti, SKM, MM.

According to Faris, IPHO is a valuable opportunity to broaden their horizons and become a place for public health students to challenge themselves, learn, and hone their skills. “I have known about IPHO since the beginning of college when I was a new student, and this is an opportunity for us, especially me, to develop further,” he said. This competition with the quiz category was the first time that Faris and his friends participated in their studies, so the three of them made very thorough preparations during the competition.

In addition, Davina emphasized the importance of understanding the situation of each member, especially in adjusting the preparation with other schedules and activities. “The preparation was quite intense, but the main motivation came from each of our internal strengths. We know that our strengths are in certain areas, so focusing on this division is important,” said Davina. For the three of them, maintaining a spirit of cooperation is also crucial. Managing time between lectures and competition preparation is a challenge for the FKM UI team in facing IPHO 2024.

Two other teams from FKM UI who also achieved achievements in IPHO 2024, including Anggun Aulia Putri, Azqia Firdaus, Zahra Pramestia who won 2nd place in the Smart, Careful, Fast category; and Amira Puji Hastuti and Morin Kristiani who won 3rd place in the Debate category.

Dean of FKM U, Prof. dr. Mondastri Korib Sudaryo, MS. DSc., said that their victory showed that collaboration, hard work, and the courage to try are the keys to success in achieving goals. “With a strong determination to continue to develop, they have proven that FKM UI students can compete on the national stage. Hopefully, this step will be the beginning of further achievements and encourage more young generations to excel, innovate, and contribute to public health and the progress of the nation,” said Prof. Mondastri in response to the excellent results of UI students at the event held on November 7, 2024.
