Universitas Indonesia (UI) received a visit from ASIIN (The Accreditation Agency for Study Programs in Engineering, Informatics, Natural Sciences and Mathematics) to undergo the international accreditation process on October 1-2, 2024. Acting Vice Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs, Prof. Dr. Ir. Dedi Priadi, DEA., stated that UI has achieved the title of the best university in Indonesia based on QS World and Times Higher Education. He appreciated the ASIIN accreditation team for their first direct visit to UI, after previously being carried out online twice. ASIIN has an important role in ensuring academic quality and advancing the internationalization of the science and technology field. “This accreditation will further enhance our global academic reputation. Universitas Indonesia as a leading higher education institution is committed to its vision to become a center of excellence in science and technology and contribute to the development of Indonesia and the global community. We strive to instill a culture of superior quality in the university,” he added. On this occasion, four study programs of the Faculty of Pharmacy (FF) will undergo ASIIN accreditation, namely the Bachelor of Pharmacy Study Program, the Master of Pharmaceutical Science Study Program, the Master of Herbal Science Study Program, and the Doctoral Study Program of Pharmaceutical Science. The Dean of FF UI, Prof. Dr. apt. Arry Yanuar, M.Si., hopes that ASIIN accreditation will be a driving force for the academic community in contributing to producing innovations for health problems both in Indonesia and globally. “We have a strong scientific foundation and direct practical experience integrated into our curriculum. This combination prepares our graduates to excel in various fields of pharmacy, both in research, clinical practice, and the pharmaceutical industry. Our commitment is to produce competent professionals who contribute to the advancement of health, both nationally and globally,” said Prof. Arry.

In the discussion session, the Director of Academic Development and Learning Resources, Gatot Fatwanto Hertono Ph.D., explained that the quality of the curriculum and the potential of the academic community are also determining factors in the quality of the study program. Therefore, UI facilitates students with several student exchange scholarship programs with overseas partner universities that are among the 100 best universities in the world. In addition, there is MBKM (Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka) as a government program that provides independent study, internships, student exchanges, Kampus Mengajar programs, IISMA, entrepreneurship, humanitarian projects, and research to create graduates who have soft skills and hard skills that are in accordance with the needs of the times.

In improving the quality of education, the financial aspect is a challenge that must be overcome. On this occasion, the Deputy Dean for Resources, Ventures, and General Administration from FF, Dr. apt. Sutriyo, M.Si., explained the sources of UI’s budget funds as a reference in preparing good faculty financial management. “In general, the UI budget is obtained from the government through the APBN, operational income, education costs, management of endowment funds, tridharma cooperation, and income from UI business entities/units,” he added. The ASIIN delegation gave its appreciation regarding the management of business entities at UI, both in the fields of science and medical, retail, asset/property, digital, and service, which according to him, have an impact on the sustainability of faculty funds.

The accreditation process by ASIIN was attended by six delegates, namely Dr. Emeline Jerez as the representative of ASIIN and five assessors, Prof. Dr. rer.nat. Hans-Jürgen Duchstein, Dr. apt. Andayana Puspitasari Gani, M.Si, Mr. Marcus Savsek, Ms. Rifda Tarimi Octavia. This accreditation is expected to further strengthen the position of Universitas Indonesia in the international arena as a superior and globally competitive higher education institution. With the support of ASIIN, UI is optimistic that it can continue to improve academic quality and innovation, as well as contribute more widely to the world of education and health, both at the national and international levels.
